Claude Monet was born at Paris on Novembre 14th 1840.
In 1859, he attended the Swiss Academy and met Pissarro.
In 1862, whereas he studied at C.Gleyre studio, he met Renoir and Sisley. With them, he set up the impressionism movement.
In 1874, during the first impressionism exhibition, Monet introduced Impression, Sun rising, a painting that get neither the approbation of critic nor success that was expected. Yet, it’s the name of this painting that will give the name of the impressionism movement.
Fascinated by nature and outdoor characters, in 1865, Monet made Lunch on grass, a painting already painted by Manet.
Then, he concentrates himself on color and light variations on a same theme: Bridges at Argenteuil, snow falls, gardens, train stations, beaches… Using light and bright colors, Monet wants to capture more precisely the variations in the atmosphere as well in landscape as in urban streets (Montorgueil Street. 1878).
From 1889, Monet’s style turns towards a “spot” paint, always on the same principle of theme: Millstones, Borders ofTamise, Views of Venice and Cathedrals of Rouen.
The last series Nymphs was certainly one of the major work of the 20th century and announces the abstract art birth.
