Fra Angelico was born at the end of the XIV century in vicinity of Vicchio, near Florence in Italy.
He worked as an artist from 1417.
In 1449, under the name of Fra Giovanni, he became Prior of the Saint-Domenico Monastery at Fiesole.
In the years 1440, Fra Angelico was already considered as the greatest artist. In Florence. At this time he attempted to start the basis of a new sacred art, according to the style of the renaissance, but in an authentically religious tone.
In 1446, he directed the creation of frescos of the new Monastery of Saint-Marco in Florence. There is a noticeable increase in the simplification of shapes inspired by serenity and spirituality.
In 1448, he went to Rome to paint the frescos of the small chapel of Nicolas V in the Vatican.
His painting, but also his exemplary life, made him celebrated as a "mystical" artist.
In his works, he brings to the forefront the ideal of the beauty of man and things, without stain.
His luminous colours, the contemplative tone of the scenes, the meticulous analysis of every aspect of the creation are the fruit of his mystical interpretation of the world.
